Imagine it’s a beautiful summer day in Walworth County, you don’t have a destination in mind, but you know you want to enjoy the weather, see some sights, and maybe get moving in the process. Why not grab your bike and check out these Walworth County bike routes and trails.

Ride the Trails at Alpine Valley

Load up your bikes and head to Alpine Valley in East Troy to ride 8.1 miles of single track. The trail ascends right away with a leg-burning climb in the trees up the side of the ski hill. After you bike around an excavation pit, miles of twists, turns, climbs, and fast descents await. The trails take you through more than 1,030 feet of climbing around the property.

Meet up with a Cycling Group at Avant

Avant in Lake Geneva and La Grange rent and service bikes. They also have a café at both locations. Riding groups meet weekly at Avant in Lake Geneva on Wednesdays and Sundays. The Wednesday group departs at 8am, and they ride 15 miles or more. The Sunday morning breakfast group goes on a casual ride through some of Lake Geneva’s beautiful cycling areas. The group usually stops somewhere local for a bite to eat and a break. Avant has information on their website about other riding groups in the area and maps to 11 scenic routes around Walworth County.

Explore the County on the White River Trail

Running from Elkhorn to Racine County, the White River Trail is the perfect trail for anyone to explore Walworth County. The 12-mile, crushed limestone trail takes you through scenic and glaciated landscape with views of the historic buildings and villages of Lyons and Springfield, and old railroad trestles and bridges.

Take in the Beauty of one of Wisconsin’s State Forests

Head up to the Whitewater area to pick up more than 30 miles of trails in the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit. The trails offer some of the best off-road biking in the Midwest. The trails are usually open from mid-April to mid-February as weather permits.

There are several trail connectors that riders can hit to get out for a couple hours or spend an entire day exploring. There’s also a special 0.4-mile loop behind the Muir Shelter created for younger mountain bike riders to be introduced to the skills of off-road biking.

Ride Country Roads in Sharon

Sharon is a small community in Walworth County that is right on the Wisconsin state line. The quaint town has a network of good rural roads that are perfect for summertime cycling. Sharon has been dubbed America’s Friendliest Cycling Community, and the Sharon Cycling Series was developed to invite cyclists to the village to enjoy the area riding. The series includes five routes that all start in downtown Sharon. The routes include Capron, Illinois (16 miles), Clinton (22 miles), Darien (18 miles), Fontana (23 miles), and Sharon Classic Road Race (11 miles). Altogether there are 90 miles of marked road routes.

From Lake Geneva to Whitewater to Sharon and everywhere in between, these Walworth County bike routes and trails will get you exploring the entire county.
